Judging by the popularity of Sourcio’s booth at the trade-show, open-source solutions have a bright future in the Armenian market and beyond.  Sourcio’s exhibits and presentations were among the most popular at the first annual DigiTec Expo, drawing the attention of everyone from the prime minister of Armenia to small business owners.

The opening ceremonies were held at noon on Friday September 30th, in front of the NPAK modern and experimental art gallery where the trade show took place.  Among key-note speakers during the ceremony were Karen Varanyan, the executive director of the Union of IT Enterprises, and Hovhannes Avoyan, chairman of the same union and Sourcio CEO.  When interviewed by reporters, Avoyan mentioned the importance of using IT in a variety of economic sectors, as a means to promote Armenia’s economic development.  “We mainly use accountancy programs in business,” he said, indicating how far computer use is from its full potential in Armenian companies.  Thirty IT organizations from Armenia and other countries participated in exhibition, which was organized by the Enterprises Incubator Foundation and Union of IT Enterprises, in an exhibition that Bagrat Yengibaryan, the director of the Enterprises Incubator Foundation, hopes will help Armenian consumers learn about various IT technologies.

Companies represented at DigiTec included leading Armenian IT firms like Unicomp, who supplied the computer hardware for many of the show’s participants including Sourcio; Arminco, Armenia’s fastest growing internet services provider; and CIT, a leading local IT producer and consulting services provider.  At Sourcio’s booth small entrepreneurs like local retailers were most interested in the company’s e-commerce services in order to expand their online presence, or to change/customize their existing e-commerce solutions; bigger organizations like insurance companies, NGO’s and consulting companies were primarily interested in CRM solutions to manage their customer records; while some foreign companies expressed an interest in partnering and outsourcing work to Sourcio.  The company’s custom e-health software also garnered attention both from Armenian and foreign organizations.
